Crazy Crab'z at the Ballpark

(download)
We've been using this interactive map from the NYTimes to locate the best ballpark food across America. So far we've sampled the mini-doughnuts at Coors Field, the famous Kinder's ball tip sandwich at McAfee Coliseum, and last night, the Crazy Crab'z Dungenous Crab Sandwich at AT&T. We're 3 for 3!

Anytime is the right time for Villa Sparina

Without Jesse here, I'm indulging all my guilty pleasures: sleeping late, Kojak on Hulu, vinofilic lunches and Nutella at every meal...and often in between. Up at the crack of 11:30am, I walked to the Farmers Market and found it loaded with fruit! Beautiful cherries, strawberries, citrus and tree fruit--the latter still a skosh hard, but by tomorrow they'll be ready for fruit salad. Lunched on the patio at Lafitte-what a nice way to spend the afternoon. The service was my favorite type, gracious and natural, thanks Deborah. The pheasant rillette is killer and six hours later, I'm still thinking about the soup. I love that they have Villa Sparina splits on the list--perfect for the single soul who wants to linger. The people watching rating is high--Embarcadero is the quintessential strolling spot and those skaters are extremely well-behaved--really, they are.
After my afternoon nap (again with the guilty pleasures) dinner is green salad and Mt Difficulty Roaring Meg Riesling--floral, fresh pink apple and quartzy mineral. Chuck Hayward has opened my eyes to New Zealand wines.

5 days in Nebraska

Lincoln was so beautiful last week--warm rain, sunshine, and lush green fields--it almost makes you forget the subzero winters there. Almost. We killed some kolaches (apricot!) and picked up radishes and greens from the downtown Farmer's Market. Melissa Clark had an article about roasted radishes a couple of weeks ago so I tried that one night, which was really good. My favorite is just is a plain radish sandwich--paper thin slices with salt on buttered toast. My Auntie introduced us to kale...chips? It's simple, just kale leaves sprinkled with sea salt and olive oil, oven-dried until it's crispy. What else, what else. Our friends at Cultiva opened a new shop on 11th street--it's only seven days old! I brought back their single origin Amaro Gayo. Bin 105 is almost two months old--and it's already the best shop in town--super grand opening on June 10.

The Kalbi Kimchi sandwich - Subshop below the apartment - Tendernob

The sub shop below our luxurious Tendernob apartment is pretty solid. If it's your first time there they'll make you order the teriyaki beef sub. You can try to order the other subs but if they know you're a newbie they'll point to a sign that says "first time here, order teriyaki". I've had almost all the subs now so I'm free to order as I wish. I had their Kalbi Kimchi sub today. This was news to me but kimchi is one of the world's healthiest foods. It contains a healthy bacteria called Lactobacili. Delicious!

Saigon Sandwich - Tenderloin

I’ve been having dreams about this place ever since @liocomatt pointed it out to me after the Dressner tasting at the Phoenix Hotel three days ago. I love bánh mì sandwiches and Saigon Sandwich, located just minutes from our luxurious Tendernob studio apartment, serves up the best bánh mì sandwiches in the city according to Esquire, Food & Wine, yelp, not to mention their 25 food score in Zagat. I opted for the roasted pork bánh mì and found it was worth all $3.25 and then some. Don’t forget the cold can of Tasco Brand Young Coconut Juice to wash it all down.
